The First Time

Well here I am. This is my first ever blog. I am not on Facebook or Twitter or MySpace.But I have some things I would like to throw out there and see where they land.I like firsts.I like trying and experiencing new tastes,people,events,fears,and places.It is what makes us stay as alive as we can be. By nature I am typically cautious and take calculated risks most times. Today was another first though not crazy but interesting.I brought my car in for some basic repairs at a garage I like in a not so great neighborhood and then drove the 3 miles home to get some things done until the car was ready. Being a beautiful fall day I thought ..why not walk back and pick up the car. That is exactly what my wife and I did , we walked the 3 miles back to the garage to pick up the car through unfortunate neighborhoods. It occurred to me that despite living in the area for my whole life I had never walked the streets I was on.I was so unfamiliar with the architecture and streets that it seemed as if it was my first time seeing them. Buildings and homes which I have driven by countless times took on a new appearance. Walking through the sufferin side of town also was an experience that gives a greater appreciation for what I have and perspective on what I do not need. Lately I find myself concentrating more and more on what I do not need rather than what I want. A canoe in the stream rather than a yacht on the ocean.I have never been in a canoe in a stream but I intend to make that a first soon and see how things look from there.
